Red Sex Links are one of the best backyard breeds you can get. They're prolific layers, easy-going, and great foragers. Our hens have full pasture access and spend their days outside, scratching in the grass, and doing what chickens do best.

These birds produce 5-6 large brown eggs per week at peak production. They're cold-hardy, heat-tolerant, and friendly enough for families with kids.

White Whiting True Blue laying hen foraging on pasture at Gray Family Farm

Whiting True Blues are a modern American breed developed by geneticist Dr. Tom Whiting, bred specifically to lay beautiful, consistent blue eggs. Unlike many “blue egg” birds that give you a grab-bag of colors, these hens reliably lay true blue — the same gorgeous shade, egg after egg.

They carry the blue egg gene from their Araucana ancestry, crossed with high-production layers. The result is the best of both worlds: that striking blue egg paired with the steady output and hardiness of a real working farm hen — typically 4 to 5 large blue eggs per week.

In terms of personality, Whiting True Blues are active, curious, and friendly. They're excellent foragers who love to roam, cold-hardy through Hudson Valley winters, and easy-going enough to do well in free-range and mixed-flock settings.

Our Whiting True Blue hens are priced at $50 each to reflect their specialty breeding. They're currently sold out — add your name to the notify list below and we'll reach out the moment they're available again.

🐔

Beaks Intact

Our hens are never beak-trimmed. It's a small thing that says a lot about how these birds are raised and how they live day to day.

"There's nothing like walking out to your coop in the morning and collecting eggs from happy, healthy hens. That's what we want for every family that takes our birds home."

— Shelley Gray
